The 27th Annual Conference—Study Abroad ... Crossing Borders and Daring to Dream—was held February 17-20, 2016, New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

7:00 PM	Welcome Cocktail Double Eagle (Mesilla, New Mexico) Introduction of Plenary Speakers Dr. Cornell Menking (NMSU) Molly Molloy is a research librarian and border and Latin American specialist at the NMSU Library. Molly is originally from Louisiana and worked at the University of Florida in Gainesville before joining the NMSU faculty in 1992. She has traveled widely in Latin America and worked as a translator in Nicaragua in 1984-85. She is the creator and editor of the Frontera List, a forum for news and discussion of border issues. Since 2008 she has provided detailed documentation on homicides in Mexico, with an emphasis on Ciudad Juarez. More than 12,000 people have been murdered in Juarez since 2008, making that border city the epicenter of the recent hyperviolence in Mexico. She translated and co-edited El Sicario: The Autobiography of a Mexican Assassin (Nation Books, 2011) and has written for The Nation, Phoenix New Times, Narco News Bulletin, and other publications. Molloy is often called upon to consult with academic researchers, attorneys and journalists about the violence in Mexico. Nancy A. Oretskin, J.D. has been an attorney for more than 25 years. She joined the faculty of NMSU's College of Business in 1989 as a business law professor and currently is the Interim Department Head of Marketing. Ms. Oretskin teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes in law related topics. Ms. Oretskin has a diverse publication record reflecting her varied interests in legal topics. Ms. Oretskin established the U.S.-Mexico Conflict Resolution Center (CRC) at NMSU and has organized over 50 events where arbitration, mediation and negotiation were taught to professionals, academics, government employees and students within the NAFTA region. In 2010, Ms. Oretskin began to practice immigration law. She co-founded the Southwest Asylum and Migration Institute (SAMI) in 2013. SAMI is a 501(c)(3) organization and is dedicated to representing those in need of immigration representation who are financially challenged and/or otherwise underrepresented. Ms. Oretskin specializes in representing immigrants seeking asylum; since 2013 she has won over a dozen asylum cases. Ms. Oretskin's grandparents first arrived in the U.S. through Ellis Island in New York State at the turn of the century. She respects and highly values all the contributions that immigrants make to the U.S. and is dedicated to fight for fair and equal treatment for all immigrants/migrants.
